Overview

If you find yourself in Banyuwangi, East Java, a stop at Warung Makan Bu Widi is more than just a meal; it’s an immersion into authentic Javanese cuisine and culture. Nestled in the serene village of dsn.randu agung, Krajan, this humble eatery offers a genuine countryside experience that pairs rustic charm with heartfelt hospitality.

The restaurant specializes in traditional Javanese dishes, expertly prepared by a friendly local couple who clearly take pride in preserving culinary heritage. Their Soto Ayam is a comforting bowl of fragrant chicken soup, rich with fresh herbs and spices that warm you inside out. Meanwhile, the Lalapan Ayam Goreng features perfectly fried chicken served alongside an assortment of fresh raw vegetables and sambal, creating a satisfying balance of flavors and textures.

For those eager to sample a medley of classic Indonesian dishes, the Complete Set Meal for three is an inviting option. It includes Ikan Bakar (grilled fish), Sayur Asem (a tangy vegetable tamarind soup), and Perkedel Jagung (corn fritters), complemented by spicy sambal that elevates every bite. Vegetarian diners will appreciate thoughtfully crafted options like Gado Gado and Dadar Jagung Khas Warung Bu Widi, proving the menu’s inclusive variety without sacrificing authenticity.

One of the standout features of this warung is how it caters to dietary needs with care. Visitors like Adrian have noted the attention given to gluten-free requests, with dishes like the local-style gado gado incorporating regional ingredients such as boiled potatoes rather than the typical Balinese variants. This flexibility alongside genuine warmth sets the tone for a memorable dining experience.

The venue itself offers a tranquil escape—quiet, cozy, and nestled beside rice fields and a small river. Sylvie’s reviews highlight how this peaceful setting creates a safe and refreshing environment for families, adding to a sense of feeling at home. The views here, especially close to sunset, provide an enchanting backdrop to your meal, reinforcing the connection between food, place, and community.

Warung Makan Bu Widi appeals to travelers eager to discover authentic Javanese flavors far from tourist crowds, as well as vegetarians seeking fresh, local fare, and families looking for a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. The owners’ gentle presence and dedication to traditional cooking make every visit feel personal—like joining family around a shared table rather than just eating out.

Whether you’re arriving after a day’s trek to Ijen or staying nearby, this warung promises a genuine taste of East Java wrapped in kindness and local spirit. It is a culinary gem that invites you to slow down, savor tradition, and enjoy the simple pleasures of food crafted with care.

One of the 2 restaurants in this village where tourists usually stop by before going on Ijen. This place is run by an old couple that - as you can imagine - cook traditional dishes. They were very careful with my gluten free request and prepared a Gado Gado for me. A little bit different than the ones found in Bali (they use boiled potatoes). It was very tasty and I had a great time. If you go before the sunset, the view is also excellent. Can only recommend it.

We stayed at the Ijen Resort just up the street and our driver recommended this restaurant as an alternative if we wanted a bit of variety to eat elsewhere during our stay. The food was *very* good! The most authentic Indonesian food we've had on our whole 1 week Java trip so far! They gave us a sampler plate of basically a little of everything from their menu, and it comes with a very tasty vegetable/noodle soup as appetizer and a banana dessert. The couple who run it are very sweet!! Definitely recommend!

Such a lovely place with a cozy countryside vibe! The food was absolutely delicious — every dish and drink we tried was perfect, nothing failed at all. The owner (ibu) is an amazing cook! The warung is right by the rice fields and a small river, so the atmosphere feels very calm and refreshing. My child even got to play safely by the riverside, which made the visit even more special. The owners are super friendly and welcoming — it really feels like visiting family in the village. Highly recommended for anyone looking for tasty homemade food and peaceful vibes!

We found this great restaurant near our accommodation and have been eating there every day for the last few days. The food is really fantastic and we can highly recommend it. As we are vegetarians, it's not always easy to find delicious fresh food. But all our expectations were exceeded there. The Nasi Campur was my absoloute favourite dish! We are very happy and will definitely be back when we are in the area. Big thank you to the lovely and super nice owners of the restaurant.

Came here on our trip to Ijen, and everything was delicious! We ordered the grilled snapper with a side of vegetables as well as the steamed snapper rapped in banana leaf. Both were really flavourful and everything tasted very homemade. The place was tidy, and the people were very kind.

Lovely Warung. We ate Nasi Campur, sate chicken, gado gado and Bintang beer. Friendly staff and clean restaurant overlooking rice fields. It was so good we wanted to have it again but we were too tired from our hike to walk down. We called on WhatsApp to ask if they could deliver and they kindly delivered 2 nasi campur to us at the Ijen resort. Thank you very much
